A native of Moldova, Ion Cutelaba joined the UFC light heavyweight roster in 2016, utilizing his diverse skillset in Sambo, Greco-Roman wrestling, and Judo. Training with the MMA Factory, the orthodox competitor is well-known for his relentlessly aggressive fighting style. His time in the organization has seen him face several top-tier opponents, such as Magomed Ankalaev, Jared Cannonier, and Glover Teixeira.

Ahead of UFC 300, Cutelaba possesses a career record of 17 wins, 10 losses, one draw, and a single no-contest. His recent performance has been erratic; after securing a TKO victory against Tanner Boser, he fell by unanimous decision to Philipe Lins in March 2024. This follows a difficult stretch where he endured three straight losses at the hands of Ryan Spann, Johnny Walker, and Kennedy Nzechukwu.
