Hailing from Moldova, Ion Cutelaba competes as a light heavyweight within the UFC. He utilizes an orthodox stance and possesses a diverse background in Judo, Sambo, and Greco-Roman wrestling. The MMA Factory athlete previously secured a victory at the 2012 European Sambo Championship in the 90 kg weight class. Throughout his tenure in the promotion, which began in 2016, he has garnered a Fight of the Night bonus. Most of his professional triumphs have been achieved by stopping his opponents via submission or knockout.

Entering the event with a career record of 17-9-1 and one no-contest, he seeks consistency. His previous five appearances include a unanimous decision win against Devin Clark, followed by three consecutive losses to Ryan Spann, Johnny Walker, and Kennedy Nzechukwu. He recently rebounded with a knockout victory over Tanner Boser.
