Canadian lightweight Kyle Prepolec, a Windsor, Ontario native, trains out of the Maximum Training Centre. Fighting from an orthodox stance, the striker originally boxed before transitioning to mixed martial arts in 2008. Over his career, Prepolec has secured multiple titles, earning championships in organizations such as SMMA, BTC, and TXC.

Entering UFC 302 with a professional record of 18-7-0, the fighter nicknamed Kill Shot has experienced mixed results in his five most recent outings. After a decision loss to Austin Hubbard, Prepolec bounced back with a split-decision victory over Michael Dufort, though he then fell to Shane Campbell by unanimous decision. He subsequently compiled a two-fight winning streak, stopping Marco Antonio Elpidio with a head kick and finishing Josh Henry with a head kick and punches.
