Representing Brazil, Diego Lopes sharpened his craft after moving to Mexico to instruct jiu-jitsu and advance his competitive career. The orthodox fighter solidified his reputation as a formidable featherweight by capturing and defending the LUX championship. Following his tenure on the Contender Series, he entered the UFC in 2023. His transition into the major promotion highlighted a versatile skillset capable of finishing opponents through both diverse striking displays and technical submission attempts.

Entering the event, Lopes holds an overall professional mark of 21-5. His momentum consists of three consecutive victories. Most recently, he secured a technical knockout against Sodiq Yusuff in April 2024. This followed a knockout of Pat Sabatini and a submission finish over Gavin Tucker. Prior to this winning streak, he experienced a unanimous decision loss to Movsar Evloev.
