CHARLES OLIVEIRA

Brazilian competitor Charles "do Bronxs" Oliveira is a former UFC lightweight champion who represents Chute Boxe Academy. Having started his jiu-jitsu training during his youth, the black belt transitioned to professional mixed martial arts in 2008. Competing from a switch stance, his aggressive blend of striking and grappling has allowed him to set UFC records for both finishes and submission victories.

Ahead of UFC 302, Oliveira carries a record of 24-8 with one no contest. His recent run features back-to-back rear-naked choke victories over Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje, as well as a technical knockout of Michael Chandler. Despite a subsequent arm-triangle choke loss to Islam Makhachev, he returned to the win column by stopping Beneil Dariush with punches.
