JAKE MATTHEWS

Australian welterweight Jake Matthews, fighting out of Melbourne, Victoria, trains at the XLR8 Training Centre. He began learning mixed martial arts during his youth while also playing Australian football. The orthodox competitor holds a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, giving him a formidable ground game. Throughout his career, Matthews has earned key victories over opponents such as Li Jingliang and Diego Sanchez.

Approaching his next match, Matthews holds an 11-6-0 record. He recently earned a rear-naked choke submission win against Darrius Flowers in July 2023. This rebounded from a unanimous decision loss to Matthew Semelsberger in late 2022. Earlier that year, he knocked out André Fialho with punches, following a submission defeat against Sean Brady in 2021 and a decision victory over Diego Sanchez in 2020.
