Hailing from Japan, welterweight competitor Jean Matsumoto prepares out of the American Kickboxing Academy. Utilizing a switch stance, the mixed martial artist is known for his adaptable striking and grappling. This versatile skill set on the feet and on the mat has guided him to key victories over ranked UFC opponents.
Entering UFC 329 with a 5-3 record, Matsumoto has had a highly active stretch. In June 2023, he defeated Daniel Rodriguez via punches, then secured a unanimous decision over Khamzat Chimaev in July. After a knockout loss to Vicente Luque in August, Matsumoto rebounded in September with a split decision win against Robbie Lawler. However, in his latest bout on September 30, he fell to Alexandre Pantoja via a rear-naked choke submission.
